För en tid sedan valde Apple att gå ur US Chamber of Commerce. Denna organisation kan sägas likna Svenskt Näringsliv med undantaget att det är en exceptionellt stark lobbyorganisation som sägs backas upp av rätt så många olje- och kolmiljoner. Så här skrev Apple i sitt hejdå-brev.
Dear Mr. Donohue
Apple is committed to protecting the environment and the communities in which operate around the World. We strongly object the Champer’s recent comments opposing the EPA’s effort to limit greenhouse gases.
As company, we are working hard to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions by relying on renewable energy our facilites and designing more energy-efficient products for our customers. We have undertaken this unilaterally and without government mandate, because we believe it is the right thing to do. For Those companies who cannot or will not do the same, Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions and it is frustrating to find the Chamber at odds with us in this effort.
We would prefer that the Champer take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constutive role in addressing the climate crisis. However, because of Champer’s position differs so sharply with Apple’s, we have decided to resign our membership effective immediately.

Likt alla andra duktiga lobbyorganisationer är det inte så att man säger helt nej till allt som förbättrar miljön, problemet för Apple och de andra företagen som lämnat är att organisationen pratar sig varm om miljön och hur viktigt fråga det är men mellan raderna säger nej till viktiga lagförslag på ämnet.
Det tog inte heller många timmar innan det var dags att svara. Fy och skam heter det och att man visst bryr sig om miljön men ogillar just de lagförslag som ligger nu. Detta skall dock sättas i relation till att organisationen verkar vara rätt odemokratiskt, lika transparent som en nersläckt tunnel samt att majoriteten av de olika beslutande positionerna innehålls av representanter från bolag som pysslar med fossil energi.
Greenpeace som fått mycket cred för att man satte igång hela den gröna vågen hos Apple (jag misstänker emellertid att det låg mer än så bakom) jublar inte helt oväntat och tycker nu att Microsoft och IBM borde följa efter.
